Christmas Decoration

Kia ora,
This week we have been asked to make some decorations for christmas trees.
We are going to be selling them tomorrow ( Thursday 28th November) We are selling the decorations to fundraise money for the years 5&6 ski trip in 2020. At this very moment we are still making decorations to get ready for tomorrow.
We are making these for people to buy because  the money will go to the ski trip next year.
We may have used polystyrene or toilet rolls. Our teacher Mrs B spent $120 for our decorations and some things were free from the school. Some of us used different kinds of glue such as glue guns or glue stick but what I think worked the most was the glue gun.
What I  liked about this activity was that we did lots of art.
What I disliked was the power cut off when I was gluing my snowflake.
The first thing Grace and I made a wreath and then I made my snowflake even though the power went out.

Spelling Practise term 4

Kia ora,
This week we have made a slideshow to show how we are using our Chromebooks while doing spelling. We were suppose to get to list 8 but not much of us did but I finished and I got up to list 8. The thing I liked about this activity was that we were using google slides and the thing I didn't like about this activity was that at first I didn't know what root words were and it wasn't until our teacher ( Mrs B ) showed us a website and there is a link in on the last slide for people who want to use the website. I hope you like this slideshow.

Margaret Peters spelling test

Kia ora everybody
Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 45 which gives me a spelling age of 12.8.
At the beginning of the year, I scored 41 and had a spelling age of 12.4

So, I improved my spelling age by .4. My actual age is 10yrs 5months so I'm doing great in spelling.

I think I got this result because I was confident and I was working hard on my practice.

Saphera's inquiry (planet earth and beyond)

Hello welcome to my blogpost, This blogpost is about Planet Earth and Beyond.

My Inquiry question: Why do planets orbit around the sun?

I used a slideshow to show my learning.

What I liked about this activity was that we got to use presentations.
What I found hard was nothing becasue it helped me with my learning and I learnt new things.
2 facts I learnt were that Pluto was counted as a dwarf planet in 2006 and when Earth orbit's, it orbits in line with the other 7 planets.

I hope you like my slideshow!

Is Earth like a Hard-boiled egg?

Kia ora,
We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Here is the Link to the Science experiment report we wrote with the teacher at the end of our experiment.

Saphera's Structure of the Earth

Ki Ora, welcome to my blog. Today my class has been learning about the Structure of the Earth. We created little models of Earth. Here is my writing and photo of my group. In the photo it looks like I am eating the clay, but I am not. I hope you like my blog.

Structure of the Earth Facts
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are: Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core.

Facts about each layer:
Crust - 8-40 kms thick. It is solid and brittle
Mantle - Rocks thickest - squishy liquid. The Mantle is very rocky and hot.
Outer Core - 4000 - 6000℃ - Totally Liquid - Rock
Inner Core - Solid made of Metal and Nickel. The inner core even though it is very
hot, it is solid because of the pressure pushing down on it from the layers above.

Our group - Annelise, Aaidyn, Saphera
First we created a 3D image of the Earth using modeling clay, knife and paint
We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry, we identified
each layer by painting them in different colours.

Below are some pictures of our work.

Mixed-ability Maths.

Kia ora,
Past the term we have been doing some mixed-ability groups. What I liked about mixed-ability groups that it helps us with our maths and that with the groups it can help us make more friends.
What I enjoyed about mixed-ability groups that when we worked together we can acomplish lot more than we think we can. What I thought was difficult was when we had to change groups because you would not know who would be in your group. Why did I find this tricky because all of the other groups were too loude and our group could not think. How can I do it and make what I want to work work: We could ask the Teachers to make all of the questions harder every time and if some kids have some trouble we could do some workshops to help them.

I really like working in mixed- ability groups I liked it alot it was fun we got to learn about more maths and we got to know how many mixed ability groups it was great!

Overall I think that when we do more mixed-ability groups I think that we will be more on to it.
